EverNotes & NiceNet !

EverNotes.com is a website home to a group of apps that allows you to record anything such as ideas, things of interest, things you see or hear. This allows you to remeber and share these things with others. You can access Evernote from a cellphone, computer or mobile device. 

NiceNet.org is a non-profit website of Internet professionalsthat give their time to help out students and teachers with educational learning. It allows World-Wide-Web based conferencing, personal messaging, document sharing, scheduling and link/resource sharing to a variety of learning environments. It can be accesed from cellphone, mobile devices, and computers.

Evernote and Nicenet

Evernote.com and Nicenet.org are sites that allow document sharing, link sharing, and “note” sharing. My favorite of the two is Nicenet because it is a nonprofit organization that “allows virtually any classroom, even those with modest resources, access to powerful tools” such as the one listed previously as well as conferencing and scheduling.

-Can you easily see who the author is?

-Can you contact the author?

-What are the authors credentials?

-Can you verify the author’s crudentials?

-Can you easily find the date the document was written?

-Is the sponsor on the website reliable?

• Look for the author’s name near the top or the bottom of the page. If you can’t find a name, look for a copyright credit (©) or link to an organization.
• Look for biographical information or the author’s affiliations (university department, organization, corporate title, etc.).
• Anyone who has visited a chat room knows that people don’t always identify themselves accurately.
• Look for an email link, address, or phone number for the author. A responsible author should give you the means to contact him/her.

 

Evaluating Search Engines

Many people are unsure whether certain Search Engines are safe or not. I, however, know several ways to ensure that you are using a safe search engine. Evaluating whether a search engine is reliable or not includes looking for how old the website is, how well known it is, the content that is on the engine, and the domain.

• Accuracy- look at who is the host of the site to know whether or not it can be trusted to be accurate.
• Authority- examine the site closely for information about the author of the information given or check for references
• Objectivity- Check to see if the site is sponsored by an organization that would show if the information is bias.
• Currency- Check when the page was last updated.
• Coverage- Compare the site to other sites with similiar information to see if it has covered the topic you’re researching.

Today I made my own website…

I didn’t publish it on the world-wide web yet, but I did get it to format on the browser. There are two different ways I can make a webpage: 

1) Use HTML

2) Use Microsoft Office

When you Microsoft Office it is called WSYSIWYG or “What You See Is What You Get.”

With code, you never know what the page looks likes until you post it.
